Reading is considered the light leading us to better know ourselves, others and the world in which we live. Egypt has always been keen on knowledge. A book is both one of the main pillars of learning and training and, at the same time, an essential factor for acquiring education and knowledge. Hence, reading formulates human’s mind positively according to the mentality, thinking and conscience of the community. It is a sign of human’s understanding and a proof of the welfare of societies and progress of nations.
Now we are witnessing the time of information and the third wave in which ways of reading are variable and wide such as the computer and the internet and the informational revolution they arise. Accordingly, electronic reading has become a new recognized means of acquiring knowledge. There is also the television with all its national and international programs. Moreover, reading the musical note is another type that allows for audible reading of eastern musical pieces and classical music. In addition, visual reading of paintings creates relations between colors, shadows and lines. Even watching the natural view of the sea and the sun rising on it with its bright colors are considered another type of reading. Analyzing through the microscope is another type. Conversely, meditating the sky and its stars and planets by telescopes is a kind of reading used in order to draw maps describing them. Faces can also be read to help knowing how to talk to each other, when to ask, where to stop arguing, how to prove our views and many other things. In all this, reading is not a vocal behavior, but here it is rather an act caring for understanding. Hence, it symbolizes a mental and informational activity that differs according to the reader’s vision. Such vision analyzes what he- the reader- reads, as during this process he adds innovative meanings to the materials read. In this regard, reading innovates meanings and discovers images that create some kind of art not dependable on the reader or the subject separately, but on both together. Now allow me my friends to ask you to read, as Egypt and the whole world are waiting for your outcomes. Read, read with your eyes, hearts and minds because reading is a renewable energy and a growing light guiding us towards mental, spiritual, ethical and social maturity.
